Mars Hill home fire under investigation
Local authorities are waiting on investigators from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office to learn more about a fire at a Mars Hill apartment home.
The Mars Hill Fire Department received a call about a fire at 39 Fort Street around 10 p.m. Monday evening, said Fire Chief Darrell Wilson.
The fire had grown up the side of the building, which housed two apartments on the first and second floors, and it took a crew of about 20 almost five hours to extinguish, Wilson said.
Wayne Giberson Sr. lived in an apartment on the second story of the building and is staying with his son, Wilson said. The first floor apartment is unoccupied and no one was at the home at the time of the fire, he added.
Wilson said it’s not clear to him was may have caused the blaze and that the the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
