Rotary discusses ranked voting

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Sept. 6 and the speakers were Griffin Johnson and Finn Melanson, who spoke about the Ranked Choice Initiative that will be on this fall’s ballot.
They talked about the difference between winning an election by majority or plurality vote and said very few elections in Maine have been won by majority vote since the 1970’s. They added that this option has been discussed for a number of years but only recently moved forward enough to be put on the ballot.
Bridgewater Music
Thursday night music is back in swing at the Bridgewater Historical Center. Playing from 6-9 p.m. each Thursday, the group plays some great foot tapping music. Upcoming events for the week of Sept. 14-20 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Fun with Noodles at 9:30 a.m., Karaoke with Larry and Larry at 1:30 p.m. and a Baked Potato Bar at 2 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Horse Racing at 1:30 p.m. and Bridgewater Free Baptist at 6:30 p.m. Friday will feature Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Lunch at Bonanza at 11 a.m.
Saturday will feature Karaoke with the Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m.Sunday will feature televised church in the day room in the morning. Monday will feature Potato Pickers Breakfast from 6-8 a.m., Nails by Shallee and Melissa and Hand Massages by Diana at 9:30 a.m. and Communion at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games and Adult Coloring at 1:30 p.m.

Library auction
The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library is beginning to gather items for the annual Bidding For Good on-line auction to be held early next year. This is typically the library’s largest fundraiser and allows it to add to their collection.
If you have items to donate for the auction, please contact the library at 429-9625. Thank you to all who help with this fundraiser.

Bingo
The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill is hosting Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. There are cash prizes. Refreshments are available. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening with friends!
