Town plans road closure Sept. 28, 2016
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Town of Fort Fairfield Public Works Department will replace a cross-culvert on the Sam Everett Road, near 38 Sam Everett Road, on Wednesday morning, Sept. 28.
The project will require the complete closure of the road for several hours. The road will be temporarily closed during construction, so residents are encouraged to plan ahead. The estimated time for the closure is from 8 a.m.-12 noon.
“We’ve had some substantial issues with water at this location, and the only way to fix the problem is to replace the entire culvert underneath the roadway,” stated Public Works Director Darren Hanson. “To get the job done, we will have to dig out the entire existing culvert and that will require us to close the road until we can get the new culvert in place.
“We understand that this may disrupt the ability of residents to come and go for a matter of hours, so we want to give them a heads-up about the work schedule so they can plan ahead,” he said. “We certainly don’t like to close any road without a detour, but there are no other options at this location.
“Residents should know that in an emergency situation, we could have it passable for an ambulance or fire crew in a matter of minutes, but to get the job done in the most efficient and rapid manner, we will have to close Sam Everett Road to all non-emergency traffic for a couple hours. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate residents understanding.”
Residents with any questions about the project and the road closure should contact Hanson at 472-3804.
