Hornet girls undefeated,
Wildcats fall in Hermon
The Ashland girls have given up just three goals all season. One of them was surrendered in last Wednesday’s game against Southern Aroostook, but behind its potent offense the team was still able to register a 4-1 victory.
Mackenzie Carter and Shelby Stolze had two goals each in the win at Dyer Brook.
The Hornets were 6-0 heading into Tuesday’s home game against Fort Fairfield. The team is just behind No. 1 Central Aroostook in the Heal Point standings for Class D North. The Panthers are at 6-2 following their 3-1 home win over Easton. Katie Levesque scored twice and Brea Bradbury had CA’s other goal, while Cailyn Harris saved five of nine shots in goal. Isabella Morin scored the lone Easton goal.
The Bears bounced back Monday to stop Washburn, 5-1. Delia Bonner had two goals and Kassidi Hanson a goal and an assist to lead the way for coach Audra Fitzherbert’s team, which is now 2-6-1. Morin and Ashley Crowley had a goal each and Casey Lovely and Delaney Leach combined for four saves in goal.
Washburn, at 3-6-1, received its lone goal off the foot of Kassie Farley.
Easton had also tied Wisdom last Wednesday, 1-1, with Morin scoring on a penalty kick. Lovely had a big game, coming up with 16 saves.
Washburn also took on Wisdom last week, playing on Friday, and the teams played to a 3-3 deadlock.
The Fort Fairfield girls (2-4-1) won their lone game by a 3-1 score over LCS/MSSM last Tuesday in Limestone.
In the Class B girls ranks, the Presque Isle girls were beaten at Hermon Saturday, 5-2. Madison Michaud and Clara Kohlbacher had goals for the Wildcats, which took a 1-1 record into Tuesday’s home game against 5-0 Caribou.
The Wildcat boys were also defeated at Hermon, losing by a margin of 2-1. Ryle Mortland had given PI the lead midway through the first half before the Hawks tied it on a Matt Leach goal and scored the game-winner early in the second half. The Wildcats held a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal. Presque Isle hopes to break into the win column for the first time when they host Caribou (1-4) at 7 p.m. tonight.
The Ashland boys are now 3-1-2 and in second place in Class D North. They earned a 6-1 win over Southern Aroostook last Wednesday behind first-half goals by Tristan Pelletier, Dylan Haley and Alex Kaiser and a pair of second-half goals by Kyle Beaulier. Lucas Craig scored off Mason Deabay’s second assist of the game to close out the strong offensive showing by the Hornets. Kaiser and Parker O’Clair picked up assists and Steven Bellanceau turned away two of six shots in goal.
Central Aroostook, with its 6-2 mark, is in third place. The Panthers played twice last week, knocking off Madawaska, 7-3, last Tuesday before stopping Easton at home Friday, 3-1. Against the Bears, Caleb Harris, Ben Thomas and Taylor Campbell were the goal scorers.
The Easton boys welcomed Hunter Brown back on the field against CA. The senior defender suffered a broken nose two weeks ago and missed a few games, but returned for the contest. Carson Flewelling tallied the lone Easton goal.
The Bears won their other two games — 2-0 over Wisdom last Wednesday and 5-1 over Washburn Monday. Elias Coy and Keegan Kinney scored goals against the Pioneers, with Isaac Currier and Collin Sotomayor contributing assists to back goalkeeper Jacob Flewelling, who recorded his second shutout by saving seven shots.
Against the Beavers in the latest game, Brown had a pair of goals and Keegan Kinney, Kooper Kinney and Noah Hanscomb added one each for the 5-3-1 Bears, who are in fourth place in the standings.
“We are still a little beat up with injuries, but our communication and intensity has improved since halftime of our game in Mars Hill,” said Bear coach Ryan Shaw. “We have been inconsistent in these two areas throughout the season. We hope our confidence builds on the offensive end.”
McCall Turner scored off a Tony Gumprecht assist for the 2-6-2 Beavers, now in fifth place.
