Historical Society
wants to ‘scare’ up volunteers
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Historical Society is looking for some frightfully good volunteers for its sixth annual Haunted Lantern Tours.
A meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Historic Fire Station at 11 Church Street for those interested in volunteering.
The society will host both walking tours and excursions via trolley that visit 13 sites (of course; it’s Halloween time) around town, all with “slightly scary, kinda creepy” true tales. The events will take place on Friday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Oct. 22, with lantern-lit walking tours at both 6 and 7 p.m., and trolley tours at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. each night.
About 28 volunteers are needed, from tour guides (not a speaking part) to historical re-enactors. The 13 re-enactors will each have a short script of about a paragraph to learn in advance and recite to tour-goers. Volunteers of all ages from early teens to adults are welcome.
Community service hours are available for high school students. Volunteers must be available both nights.
Organizers say participating is a great way to meet new people and learn about the history of Presque Isle.
The Presque Isle Historical Society’s mission is to study, preserve and promote the history, culture, heritage and physical artifacts of Presque Isle for present and future generations. To learn more, visit www.pihistory.org, call 762-1151, or e-mail pihistoricalsociety@hotmail.com.
