Washburn Rotarians explore voting option

On Sept. 7, the Rotary Club of Washburn hosted two speakers from The Committee for Ranked Choice Voting. In November, referendum question 5 asks for a vote to change the current voting system to a ranked choice system.

Griffin Johnson and Finn Melanson, representing the above committee, discussed what ranked voting is, and then took questions from the group.
The club invites interested community members to join them any Wednesday evening at 5:30. They meet weekly at the rec center, and would enjoy new members.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination will hold a multi-family yard sale on Friday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in Crouseville at 269 Washburn Road.
All money raised will go towards the Washburn District High School DI team.

Methodist Ladies

The United Methodist Ladies Group met on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The meeting opened with 10 members. Vice President Lois McDevitt started the meeting with a prayer from Pastor Ellen Cleaves and the purpose creed. The treasurer’s report was given by Carolyn Winters and secretary’s report by June Churchill.
Charlotte Wilson introduced discussion to purchase a subscription and prayer calendar. Old business included donating auction items for the upcoming bazaar, which will be held on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-12 noon at the church. There was much discussion on the sale and a workshop will be held on Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. Anyone with items is encouraged to attend.
New business included 12 schoolchildren being selected for UMCOR and much discussion regarding upcoming fall activities. The meeting closed with refreshments.
The next meeting will be Oct. 8 at 12 noon.

Washburn Memorial Library

The Washburn Memorial Library hours are Monday, 1-7 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Girl Scouts meet each Friday afternoon when school is in session at 3 p.m. downstairs in the King room.
The library would like to add to its collection of family history, and needs folks to be willing to give the library a copy of their family history or allow them to photocopy it.

Spaghetti Supper

On Friday, Oct. 21, there will be a spaghetti supper held at the Washburn Trailrunners Clubhouse from 5-7 p.m.
The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for kids under 12, and a family rate of $20 for four or more. Meals will include spaghetti, rolls, green salad, dessert and a drink. Coffee and water will be provided. Join in starting the year off with a family dinner.
