PIHS runners place at  home meet

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine All the Aroostook County varsity track and field teams gathered at the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a meet on the campus’s five-kilometer course.

In the boys’ meet, which was held first, Houlton’s Isaiah Brown took the lead early and was never threatened as he posted a winning time of 18 minutes and 11.57 seconds. He was 47 seconds ahead of runner-up Evan Desmond of Caribou, who came in at 18:59.29.
Dylan Marrero of the Vikings was third in 19:15.49, Joel Bond of Hodgdon was fourth in 19:33.16 and Trace Cyr of Presque Isle came in fifth in 19:36.15.
The remainder of the top 10 included Wesley Gangfinger of GHCA (19:37.06), James Cyr of Limestone/MSSM (19:44.33), Alec Cyr of Caribou (19:46.78), Kyle Boucher of Caribou (19:53.86) and Devon Maynard of Washburn (19:54.21).
The Vikings had the low score of the meet with 30 points. Presque Isle finished second with 64 points and Fort Kent edged out Washburn by a mere point (88-89) for third. Limestone/MSSM was fifth with 95 and Houlton was sixth with 134.
A total of 51 boys competed.
On the girls’ side, Rylee Warman of Houlton, who has been battling injury, came from behind to post the victory. She had a time of 22:18.68. Just six seconds back was Teagan Ewings of GHCA in 22:24.85, with Caribou’s Ashley Violette in third in 22:31.9.
The fourth-place finisher was GHCA Bridgett Hill in 22:43.91 and in fifth was Madison Jandreau of Presque Isle, whose time was 22:44.73.
The next five to cross the line were, in order, Jordyn Ritchie of Katahdin (22:52.13), Kassandra Farley of Washburn (22:57.44), Katrina Salch of Caribou (23:06.65), Sarae Greenier of Caribou (23:09.48) and Emily Austin of Caribou (23:21.51).
Allison Johnson of Limestone/MSSM was her team’s top finisher. She was 12th in 23:54.44.
Caribou won with 37 points and GHCA was second with 81. Limestone/MSSM was a point back and in third and Washburn was fourth with 93. Presque Isle posted 109 points to take fifth and Houlton was sixth with 111. The meet included 51 female competitors.
The next varsity meet for Caribou and Presque Isle is the Old Town Sectionals on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The Festival of Champions is the following Saturday, Oct. 1, in Belfast.
