Florida man, 80, indicted in PI resident’s death

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine An 80-year-old Florida man accused of strangling to death his 86-year-old Presque Isle neighbor has been indicted on a murder charge by the Aroostook County grand jury.

Robert Craig of Clearwater, Florida was among the indictments handed down by the grand jury on Sept. 9, 2016 according to a list released last Wednesday by District Attorney Todd Collins.
Craig strangled Corriveau on July 21 in Presque Isle and fled with Corriveau’s car to Hermon, where he caught a bus back to Florida, according to an affidavit filed in Presque Isle District Court on July 29.
The men were neighbors for several years in Florida, where Corriveau spent his winters, and they came to Maine together to stay at Corriveau’s Presque Isle home on July 12, the affidavit states. Corriveau was found dead facedown in his backyard by relatives on Saturday, July 23, and investigators said they found evidence related to the crime in Corriveau’s home and car.
Craig declined to fight extradition back to Maine to face prosecution in the case, according to authorities.
