September is Life Insurance Awareness Month
To the editor:
Will your life change if you lose a loved one? Will you have any kind of financial hardship if you lose someone unexpectedly? National statistics tell us that only 44 percent of people have individually owned life insurance and 60 percent think it’s too expensive. This is very untrue!
What are the most common reasons to own life insurance? They include: burial/final expenses; Income replacement for the surviving beneficiary and family; to pay off the mortgage and other debts; and to transfer wealth or leave inheritance.
Some people tell me “I have life insurance at work, I don’t need more!” Professionals recommend you always get as much coverage at work as you can. But through your working years, if you leave or lose your job that coverage is gone! Your employer is in control.
Many employees seek to control their own life insurance benefits. With all the mass marketing, through online, direct mail, and TV ads, the life insurance subject can get very confusing. It can lead to being a “stuck shopper!”
Many people as a result are turning to qualified, licensed agents to sort through the options. People need and want “good listeners.” Always make sure your agent is knowledgeable, and is listening to what is important to you!
