Chalk up a couple more wins for the Fort Fairfield boys’ soccer team, which solidified its No. 1 ranking in the Class D North standings.

The Tigers edged Fort Kent, the fifth-ranked team in Class C, at home last Tuesday, 2-1. Two nights later, they journeyed to Mars Hill and blanked Central Aroostook, No. 6 in Class D, by a 5-0 final. In the most recent match, Ryan Player tallied three goals, while Chris Giberson and Yoni Majia added one each. Jonah Daigle assisted on two of the goals.

Fort Fairfield is now 11-0 and are off until Monday, when they host LCS/MSSM.

Also staying unbeaten and retaining their top ranking were the Ashland girls, who nabbed easy shutout wins over Southern Aroostook (8-0 last Tuesday) and Hodgdon (11-0 Saturday). The Hornets, now 11-0, hold a 13-point lead in the standings over second-ranked PVHS of Howland, which holds a 9-0 mark.

Freshman Shelby Stolze notched five goals in the win at Hodgdon, with Mackenzie Carter contributed two goals and an assist. Willow Hall, an eighth-grader, had a pair of goals and Morgan Doughty and Cassidy Pelletier were the other goal scorers. Megan Cote picked up another shutout in goal by saving three of 10 shots.

Against SA at home earlier in the week, Carter scored three times and Doughty dished out four assists in addition to netting a goal as the Hornets put 46 shots on goal in the contest. Jamie Poulin, Kassandra Nelson, Stolze and Hall also had a goal apiece. Cote needed to make just two saves for the shutout.

The Presque Isle boys lost a pair of matches, 2-1 at Ellsworth last Wednesday and 2-0 at home against Hermon Saturday. Sophomore Kyler Caron tallied PI’s only goal in the two matches. The Wildcats are now 5-4 and in fifth place in Class B North.

The Wildcat girls stopped Ellsworth last Wednesday by a score of 5-1, thanks to Emily Wheaton’s two goals and one each by Madison Michaud, Eleanor St. Peter and Alana Legassie. On Saturday in a home game, St. Peter scored an early goal to give PI the lead, but Hermon came back for the 2-1 victory. Presque Isle is in eighth place in the B division with its 4-3-2 record.

The PI boys were at John Bapst Tuesday and the girls play the Crusaders this afternoon on the road. Both squads are at Old Town Saturday before hosting Ellsworth Monday.

The Ashland boys and the Central Aroostook girls kept their winning seasons intact. The Hornet boys have now won six of their last seven and are in second place in Class D North after gaining victories over SA last Tuesday, 2-0, and Hodgdon Saturday, 5-0. The Hawks went into the match with a 9-0 record, but Kyle Beaulier scored three times and Lucas Craig chipped in with a goal and two assists to power the Hornets (7-2-2) to the big road win. Mason Deabay added a goal and Steven Bellanceau had the shutout by saving six of nine shots.

Coach Joe Levesque’s CA girls are now 9-2 and in third place after easing past Fort Fairfield at home Thursday, 10-0. Two goals apiece by Brea Bradbury, Jadeyn Giberson and Kate Levesque paved the way toward the easy triumph.

Central Aroostook hosts Ashland Tuesday, Oct. 11 in a pair of matchups between Class D heavyweights. The boys game is at 4 p.m. and the girls game kicks off at 6 p.m.

The Easton teams are back to work that same day, at Van Buren, as they wrap up a three-week break between games due to the harvest recess. The boys are 7-3-1 and in eighth place and the girls stand at 4-6-1 and in ninth.
