Five Presque Isle residents are running for two spots on the city council in November, and the public will have two chances to learn more about them this month.
The council seats of Craig Green and Richard Engels are open for a two-year term. Engels is not seeking reelection while Green is seeking to retain his position and is running along with Kevin Freeman, Eugene Cronin, Jacqueline Goodine and Donald Gardner.
Before the Nov. 8 elections the council candidates will convene twice for public forums.
The first of those is hosted by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce on Monday, Oct. 17, at 4:45 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
The second is Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Presque Isle Middle School, starting at 5:30 p.m. The Presque Isle High School’s sophomore social studies class will be hosting the forum as part of a service learning project and will be conducting a voter registration drive.
