MAPLETON, Maine A Mapleton man was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and several other charges on Saturday after allegedly crashing his car in a field and fleeing from police.

State police Sgt. Jeff Clark said in a written statement Monday that the incident happened at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Pulcifer Road in Mapleton and involved a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Brandan Pinchott.

Trooper Patrick Pescitelli responded to a report of a vehicle speeding up and down the road and arrived at the scene to find that a 2007 Chevy Aveo had crashed in a field off the road. Pescitelli was informing Pinchott that he was under arrest for operating under the influence when he decided to run, according to Clark. The trooper caught up to Pinchott and the Mapleton man resisted arrest, but was quickly subdued and placed in handcuffs.

Pinchott was then taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle for treatment of injuries suffered in the car crash and then to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
Pinchott was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report a crash, violation of conditional release, operating under the influence, operating beyond the restrictions of license, failure to submit to detention or arrest and escape.

Trooper Adam Stoutamyer assisted at the scene. The case is still under investigation. Pinchott is being held without bail at the jail.
