Special Olympians display water skills

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine Approximately 50 athletes representing seven agencies and schools made the trip to the Gentile Hall pool Friday for the annual Special Olympics swim meet.

Represented were the Central Aroostook Association, Opportunity Training Center, Personal Services of Aroostook, Northern Maine General in Fort Kent and Caribou, Fort Fairfield and Fort Kent schools.
Meet director Sloan Dionne said events ranged in distance from 15 to 25 yards and included total assist on front and back, floatation and traditional strokes of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Volunteers for the meet came from Presque Isle High School, UMPI, Community High School in Fort Kent, Washburn District High School, while several Aroostook County law enforcement officers also donated their time during the morning-long event.
