PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook County Action Program Inc. will work with Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CACH) to help families apply or reapply for health coverage.
CAHC was awarded $600,000 over two years through the Connecting Kids to Coverage Outreach and Enrollment Grant program, and has joined partners to provide this service statewide.
“Children who have insurance are more apt to get the care they need like well child checkups and immunizations,” stated Dawn Roberts, ACAP healthcare navigator. “Healthy kids are less likely to miss school and more likely to reach their full capacity.”
This project will allow ACAP to work with schools, day care providers and communities to educate Maine families about health coverage options
.
Approximately 16,300 children in Maine are uninsured and not getting the preventative care they need to stay healthy. Many uninsured children qualify for Medicaid or CHIP, but are not enrolled because they do not know they qualify.
