Seventh-graders become mentors

Recently some of Washburn District Elementary School’s seventh-grade students visited the kindergarten classroom during study hall to assist them with skills.

The kindergartners were working on learning number recognition and taking turns, as well as good sportsmanship. This activity allowed youngsters to establish a relationship with an older role model and it also gave older students a chance to contribute to the school in a positive way.
School staff frequently look for opportunities that allow older students and younger students to work together as a way to build positive relationships throughout the PreK-8 school. WDES thanks seventh-graders Beckham Vaughn, Kristin Bragg, Aaron Skinner, Joey Whipkey and Hannah White for their help.
