MAPLETON NEWS
By Terry Sandusky
Having trouble finding that special gift for Christmas? Patricia Sutherland of Chapman has the answer — the Chapman Centennial History book, which is filled with town history.
That history includes recollections about the good old days and a photo story on the three Chapman one-room schools (Washington, Hodgdon and Hillside). As a bonus, there are some favorite historical Chapman recipes and many photos of current residents and families of the past.
Sutherland reported that a number of people had asked about purchasing copies of the book, which was first published last year. As a result a small re-order was placed, and the books are here and available at the town office in Mapleton or from Pat herself.
The town office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or contact Pat at 764-1490. The books are still $10 to cover the printing cost.
Luncheon Postponed
Caroline Ballerstein announced that due to bad weather and other needs, the Mapleton Methodist Church’s First Friday Luncheon was postponed to Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m.
Telephone contacts with regular attendees were made to announce the change.
Also Caroline promised a very special holiday lunch. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy food and visitation. The luncheon is free; however, donations are welcome and appreciated.
Special Christmas Services
The Mapleton United Baptist Church will present its Christmas Cantata, “He Came to Us,” on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 4 p.m.
The West Chapman Advent Christian Church will offer a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Saturday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. On Christmas Day, the church will have a morning service only at 10:45 a.m.
