PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Members of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 are giving soldiers serving overseas a little bit of home with some special gifts.
Army Sgt. Justin Good, son of Presque Isle Elk Larry Good and Diane Good, is a member of a United States Army task force currently deployed in Iraq with a 20-member company. Lodge members have assembled individual care boxes for this Army unit.
Each care box includes a comic book, a crossword puzzle book, a deck of playing cards, toothpaste, toothbrushes, eye drops, antiseptic cream or powder, mouth wash, dental floss, deodorant, small packages of nuts, individually wrapped hard candy, bubble gum and cookies.
According to Marion Donahue, Presque Isle Elks exalted ruler, “November was National Veterans Month for all Elks. It was especially appropriate that at this time, the Presque Isle Elks attempted to make life a little easier for our sons and daughters currently serving in harm’s way in the military service of this country.
“It is our hope that these care boxes will convey to these young servicemen the appreciation we all have for their service and provide some level of comfort to them during this stressful time for them,” Donahue said.
In addition to the contributions of individual Elk members, the care boxes include donations from Bradley’s Citgo, Timi Odimayo, DMD, Eagle Hill Stamp and Coin, and Allen Jacobs, DMD.
