PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team evened its record at 4-4 after home victories over Colby College and Unity College last week.
Derek Healy hit the game-winning shot in traffic with 2.1 seconds left last Wednesday to left the Owls to a 66-64 win over Colby.
Healy had tied the game with a pair of free throws with two minutes to play. Following a miss on the front end of a one-and-one by Colby’s Patrick Stewart, Healy drove down the right side and banked in a shot with the defense collapsing on him to give UMPI the lead and the victory. He finished with 31 points on the evening. Kevin Collins had 13 points, five rebounds and four steals and Jordan Cook contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
On Sunday, UMPI bested United College in another home game, 72-60. The Owls held a 19-point lead at halftime, which ballooned to 28 at one point early in the second half before the Rams slowly chipped into the large deficit.
Collins led the way with 19 points and six rebounds, while Maurice Harris added nine points and nine boards. Healy and Kim Collins chipped in with nine points each.
The Owls will go on the road next to face The Coast Guard Academy on Saturday at 2 p.m. in New London, Conn.
