Wintergreen students delve into publishing

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine After-school students at the Wintergreen Arts Center are about to learn what it’s like to have their own book published.

Students in Athena Hallowell’s After School Arts Program at Wintergreen recently wrapped up a six-week creative writing and illustrating course. Throughout the program the students remained focused and achieved their goal, a book titled “Our Stories,” soon to be published and available on amazon.com.

Now that the hard work is done, a celebration of success is in order and the community is invited. On Friday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m., Hallowell and her students will hold an authors’ hour and book signing at the Presque Isle center. Light refreshments will be served, and each student will go home with a copy of their book.

Extra copies of “Our Stories” will be available for sale. The authors welcome families, friends and members of the public.

The most recent six-week session of Wintergreen’s After School Arts Program began Nov. 7. The theme is youth theatre, and the program is being taught by local playwright Darci Faye. The main objective is to dramatize a beloved children’s book and stage it.

The youth theatre production is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 21, and Thursday, Dec. 22, at 5 p.m. both evenings at the center.
