PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A recount that Presque Isle City Council candidate Donald Gardner requested has verified the original results in the five-way race for two open council seats.
“The results did not change,” said city clerk Tom King, after the day-long recount was over.
Craig Green and Kevin Freeman won the majority of the votes for the two open seats, with Green earning 34 percent of the vote and Freeman 17.7 percent. Gardner earned 17.4 percent of the vote, Gene Cronin 16 percent and Jacqueline Goodine 14 percent.
With just 16 votes making up the difference between Gardner and Freeman, Gardner said he wanted to have a recount to confirm that the voting records were accurate.
