Elementary artists DOE recognizes

During the month of November, seven SAD 1 Gifted and Talented elementary art students were honored by the Maine Department of Education. The department selected their artworks for display in the department’s Gifted and Talented Art Show.

Under the direction of Ruth McAtee, the following SAD 1 student artworks were selected: McKayla Guerrette, Mapleton Elementary, grade 3, “Self-Portrait” in crayon and marker; Nolan Holder, Mapleton Elementary, grade 4, a crayon, colored pencil and marker piece called “Batman and Robin: An American Gothic Parody”; Kayden Lovely, Zippel Elementary School, grade 4, a watercolor and oil pastel picture named “Still Life”; Lindsay Holmes, Mapleton Elementary, grade 6, a fine-tipped permanent marker drawing called “Name Tangle”; Taylor Doyen, Mapleton Elementary, grade 6, “What I Like About Art”; Hailey Easler, Mapleton Elementary, grade 6, “Still Life”; and Orion Ouellette, Zippel Elementary, grade 6, “Mountain Lion.”
These students used a variety of art media that included oil pastels, watercolors, crayons, fine-tipped Sharpies, markers and colored pencils.
At the December 14 school board meeting, these students were recognized and extended the board’s congratulations for their accomplishments.
Students and their parents attending the meeting were, Lindsay Holmes, Nolan Holder, McKayla Guerrette and Kayden Lovely.

Christmas services

Everyone is welcome to attend the following special Christmas services in Mapleton and Chapman.
Mapleton United Baptist Church: Christmas Sunday worship service only, 9:30 a.m.
West Chapman Advent Christian Church: Christmas Eve candlelight service, Saturday, Dec. 24, 6 p.m.; also, Christmas Day morning service only at 10:45 a.m.
Mapleton United Methodist Church: Christmas Eve candlelight service, 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 24; also, Christmas Day worship service, 10:30 a.m.
