PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A problem that left the traffic lights at Main and State streets in downtown Presque Isle flashing yellow and red has been fixed, according to the city.
Presque Isle Public Works Director Dana Fowler said that the city had a mechanical issue with the lights and had to order parts to get the lights working again.
The traffic lights had been blinking since the morning of Dec. 31, with Main Street on yellow and State Street on red.
Fowler said a controller panel was ordered, and delivery and installation was expected on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Public works staff found that they had to work through several other issues through Thursday, however.
“There was a problem with the electrical to the controller box that resulted in several components being shorted out,” Fowler said.
As of Friday morning, Jan. 6, Fowler said, the new parts were installed and the lights were restored.
Unrelated to the Main and State lights, the traffic lights went out near the intersection of Main and Park streets Thursday afternoon, requiring police to direct traffic.
Fowler said that that issue stemmed from the nearby railroad’s lights, and that the lights are again working.
