WASHBURN NEWS
In December, the 21st Century After School Program started The ASP Kind Kids Club. This club established the ASP Kindness Calendar, which also served as the holiday countdown.
The club posted some ideas of good deeds every day on the calendar, and these were also announced in the morning at Washburn District Elementary School. Then members made a Wall of Positivity, where everybody could put a sticky note with some positive message for others to share. Members delivered the notes to friends, teachers, and staff members. On the last day of the program before the school break, all the notes that were left were put around school.
The Kind Kids Club also assisted with the Winter Concert by making goodies and decorations. The club organized an afternoon with the senior citizens. Thanks to their partner, the Washburn Rec Department/Marcie Barbarula, they were able to spend one day making gingerbread houses, playing games and reading with the seniors.
Club members delivered brownies to the teachers’ rooms and ticketed all the staff cars with kindness tickets and coupons, which were enjoyed by all. Ticket holders were surprised with items such as ornaments, greeting cards and homemade candy.
Graduation fundraisers
The 2017 Washburn Project Graduation students will sell baked potatoes at the Jan. 24 home basketball game against Ashland, and also at the Jan. 31 basketball game against CAHS. The price will be $5 each or a donation.
The group will also take orders for pizzas that can be either picked up or delivered to your house in the Washburn area on Super Bowl Sunday. Anyone wishing to order a pizza can contact Erica Vaughn at 551-6744, Tony Gumprecht at 551-4392, or any of the Washburn seniors for an order form.
The price will be $10 for a large 1-item pizza and each additional topping is $1 each.

Class of 2018
The Washburn District High School Class of 2018 is holding a beef raffle of one cow with a 350 minimum hanging weight. The beef is donated by the Viola Family at Fortune Smiles Farmstead, LLC, in Perham.
This grass-fed and locally grown livestock will be cut and wrapped to the winner’s specifications by Todd Jandreau of Cedar Grove Meat Processing of Stockholm. Only 400 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $10 for one or five tickets for $45.
