MARS HILL, Maine — Much like their high school team, the Central Aroostook Middle School cheering squad proved to be the cream of the crop Jan. 5, capturing the 2017 Aroostook League Middle School Cheering Competition championship.
The Panthers bested squads squads from Houlton, Caribou and two from Presque Isle in securing the league crown. It is the third consecutive year that Central Aroostook has won the title.
Presque Isle Middle School “White” finished second in the event, while Houlton was third. Also participating were squads from Caribou and Presque Isle “Blue.”
Houlton seventh-grader Eden Davis won a medal for All-Star Jumping and the team won the Spirit Award for the third consecutive year. Caribou received Best Team Motions. Central Aroostook’s Janelle Tweedie got all star tumbling and all star jump, while Jenna Rusby received an all star jump award.
Members of the victorious Central Aroostook squad include Delaney McKeen, Sam Mahan, Abigail Morrison, Madison Howlett, Elizabeth Hotham, Lauren Shebuelka, Jenna Rusby, Gracie Bailey, Calleigh Crawford, Riley Prince, Amy Gerritsen, Emma Fletcher, Janelle Tweedie and Hudson Bradbury. The coach is Brittni Morrison.
Members of the Presque Isle Blue team include Isabella Harvath, Jeanna Knight, Molly Irwin, Meghan Boardman, Madelyn Sylvia, Gabi Caron, Delaini Huston, Jasmine LeClair, Gracie Theriault, Emma Deeves, Emma York and Allie Fullen. The coach is Julie Stephenson.
Members of the Presque Isle White team include Sydney Robichaud, Jordyn Martin, Alexa Perkins, Zoe Plummer, Lindsey Himes, Sierra Farley, Kiera Cyr, Delaney Alward, Libby Kinney, Heather Wright, Anna Mautz, Taylor Doyen and Ellie Clark. The coach is Jolene Kinney.
