As we get settled into a new school year, it is with great pleasure that we also become accustomed to our new school name, Mill Pond School. Since this school was built in 1972, the name of the school has been MSAD 70 Elementary/Middle School. We simply wanted our school to have a more personal name, hence this endeavor.

We would like to thank all students and community members who submitted names for our school. There were many great suggestions submitted, but ultimately Mill Pond School was chosen.
We would like to thank Karen Sattler for her organization of having people complete the Bangor Savings Bank ballots. Karen dedicated hours to this task, which certainly paid off because our after-school program was awarded a $1,000 gift from the bank.
We would like to thank Bangor Savings Bank for their generosity.
Last Wednesday night parents gathered in the elementary school library to listen to a presentation by Cindy Sproul of the Maine Parent Foundation. The focus of the discussion with parents was sharing strategies that would assist the parents in helping their children with homework. This was organized by Rhonda Foster, our home-school coordinator.
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, our school will host their annual school-wide dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. The menu includes baked chicken, potatoes, and many more “goodies.” You will be introduced to the Title IA staff and will learn about the support they give to children.
If you would like to attend, please contact Rhonda Foster at 532-9228 by tomorrow afternoon.
A reminder to parents that next week is Bus Driver Appreciation week. Please let your child’s bus driver know how much he or she is appreciated. I always tell bus drivers they have more impact on children than any other school employee because how they greet each student in the morning may set the stage for the student’s day. Bus drivers have a huge responsibility; let’s make sure we let them know just how much they are appreciated.
