Houlton artist in USM show

   GORHAM, Maine — Jerry Cardone, a.k.a. The Dinosaur Man on top of Drake’s Hill in Houlton, is featured in  a current exhibit at the University of Southern Maine Gorham Campus Art Gallery. The exhibit is titled “Off the Grid: Maine Vernacular Environments,”  and features the works of four Mainers who have not been formally trained in art or exhibited before.
    The exhibit through Nov. 1 with a symposium and reception on Nov. 4. The “Off the Grid” symposium will be Sunday, Nov. 4, 2-3:30 p.m., 10 Bailey Hall, Gorham followed by reception in Art Gallery 3:30-5 p.m.
Symposium speakers including Carolyn Chute, Kent Ryden, John Beardsley, Carolyn Eyler, and Tonee Harbert consider how the environments in Off the Grid facilitate an understanding of the Maine vernacular and what is commonly called Outsider Art. The exhibit and symposium are sponsored by USM Fannie E. Gray Endowment, USM Cultural Affairs Committee, USM American and New England Studies Department, and Maine Humanities Council.
