HOULTON — A Linneus woman escaped without any major injuries last Wednesday when her vehicle over turned.
Cheryl Sawyer, 28, of Linneus was dropping someone else off at Steelstone Industries just after 6 a.m. on Oct. 17 when the accident happened, said Officer Ezekiel Collins of the Houlton Police Department. Sawyer, alone in the vehicle, had left Steelstone when she rounded a corner and a soda bottle slid across the dash.
“She said she went to reach for it and two of her wheels went off the road on the left side,” explained Collins. “She over-corrected. The vehicle started sliding sideways. Eventually, the wheels became jammed up in the ground and the vehicle rolled over.”
Collins said the 1998 Chevrolet Sonoma traveled about 250 feet, rolling over about three times.
“She missed a telephone pole by only about four feet,” he said.
Sawyer, who wasn’t wearing her seatbelt at the time, was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital complaining of shoulder and leg pain. Janene Stewart of Houlton Regional Hospital said Sawyer was treated and released by late afternoon that same day.
“Considering she didn’t have her seatbelt on, it could have been a lot worse,” Collins said.
Sawyer’s vehicle wasn’t so lucky. Collins said the truck sustained extensive damage and is most likely totaled.
In addition to the Houlton Ambulance crew, others assisting at the scene included Officer Carolyn Crandall, Officer Jared Sylvia and Cpl. Tom Donahue.
