HOULTON – Snow is on the ground, so it must still be basketball season, right? Not really, spring officially arrives tomorrow, but since there is still a thick layer of snow on the ground, let’s play some round ball one more time to wrap up a great season by the Shires.
The Harlem Rockets will again make their entry to the Shiretown to play Houlton High School’s “Super Senior Team” at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4.
Last year, the Alumni Gymnasium was packed, so the Senior Class of ’08 is hoping to fill the bleachers once again in support of Project Graduation.
Even though many people have seen the Rockets’ show before, no one can deny how much fun is had during the game — from dancing in the middle of the floor to the games the Rockets play to watching the pranks they pull — but more so, just sitting in awe as a Rocket player lays down a slam dunk or swishes an unbelievable shot.
Two of the standout showman of the Harlem Rockets, Kevin “Showboat” Jackson and Rick “Rim Rocker” Lopes will be on hand the night of the performance. Jackson has been dubbed the “King of Comedy Basketball,” and the 7-foot 2-inch Lopes will rock the house with his jams.
Going up against the Rockets for their final game at Houlton High School will be the explosive “Super Seniors” — Ben Austin, Josh Beals, Ryan Hill, Emily Bartlett, Parker Brown, Abe Carmichael and Rachel Foster. These seven seniors have a combined total of 22 years of varsity basketball between them. Even though the “Super Seniors” have experience and skill, will they be able to do any better than the last year’s squad did against the Rockets?
Since it’s not premiere week for television shows, don’t stay home and watch reruns, bring the family to a fun comedy basketball show to help with the Houlton High School senior class at the same time.
Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door. Tickets can be bought from members of the senior class.
