Hodgdon – Fredrick Mann Boutilier, 88, died April 30, 2008, at his home in Hodgdon with his wife, Winn at his side. He was born May 12, 1919, at Houlton, the son of Samuel and Florence (Mann) Boutilier.
Fred graduated from Houlton High School and joined the US Army where he served for five years of active duty and 15 years in the reserves retiring as a Master Sargent. While serving in the military in Iceland, he met his first wife Aslaug (Marilyn) Magnusdottir. When he returned home, he attended and graduated from the University of Maine and taught high school in Houlton and Hartland, Maine. He retired from the New York and Penn Central Railway Perishable Inspection Agency in 1984, where he worked for more than 20 years. Fred was active in Boy Scouts, where he served on the local board and in his community. He loved working outside, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his cousins in Oakfield.
Fred is survived by his wife, Winifred (Budrow) Crocker Boutilier of Hodgdon; one son, David Boutilier and his wife Mary of Orlando, FL; three granddaughters, Lindsay of Bentonville, AR, Rachel of St. Paul, MI, Kelsey of Orlando, FL; one brother, Orville Boutilier of Houlton; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Ruth; several nieces and nephews, Carol, Patty, Joyce, Ruth, Beth, Janice, Nancy, Mark; and one special niece Tota Donovan of Bellingham, WA, that lived with him during her high school years and called him every Sunday afternoon at 4:00. He also left behind three step-children, Raelene Page and her husband Daniel of Danforth, Simone Carter and her husband Charles of Hodgdon, Rex Crocker and Tina of Danforth; twelve step-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grand-children that were all very close to him. Fred was predeceased by his first wife Marilyn; and his brothers, Morris, Robert, and Gordon Boutilier.
Friends called at the Dunn Funeral Home Friday 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of Pleasant St. and Highland Ave. Saturday at 2 p.m. A committal service will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Augusta.
