CRYSTAL — It’s been a long winter for most folks and for people who really love their lawns — it’s been a hard one.
Snow and mud have helped contribute to rapid grass loss in some yards and for those who are just getting out into their yard to assess the damage, it could mean as much as having to start over.
Dick Shean is the owner and operator of Dick’s Lawn Care based in Crystal and he said in order to know just how severe the damage is, he would have to see it first-hand.
“There are places where water lays and has killed grass with mud, and you’ve got to aerate that and seed it again,” he explained. “People would be better off to have someone who knows what they’re doing come and look at their problems. I’d have to see the lawn and talk to the people to be able to tell them what to do.”
Most people worry about mowing and fertilizer, but Shean insists that in order to ensure a healthy lawn, it’s got to have winter damage repaired as soon as possible.
“Lime does the job,” he said. “It will bring it back, but in some cases you may have to reseed the area. You have to see the lawn to find out. In some cases you need to lyme it or put on Weed and Feed on it.
“With this weather, and all the snow, there is a lot of dead grass and so there will be a lot of lawns that will need something put on them,” he said.
