HOULTON, Maine — Marty Bouchard, principal of Houlton High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2008. Valedictorian is Jennifer E. Beasley, daughter of Dr. Joe and Susan Beasley. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Principal’s Award honor student. She has also won prizes for the Science Fair.
Involved in music, Beasley has been named to the All-Aroostook Band and Chorus and All-State Chorus. She is a member of the Symphonic band, jazz choir, jazz band, chamber choir and show choir. She directs a flute ensemble and is section leader in the high school band. She has participated in the school musicals and this year had the lead in “Wizard of Oz”. Beasley has been a member of McGill’s Community Band since the sixth grade and received the Outstanding Female Vocalist Award at the State Show Choir competition. She plays the flute, piccolo, saxophone and piano. Besides music, her other interests include horseback riding, hiking, kayaking and other indoor activities. She is also involved in community service through the National Honor Society and her church youth group. She is the youngest of six children and enjoys spending time with her family, especially her nephews, Wyatt and Barrett.
Beasley will be attending the University of Maine, majoring in music education studies with a vocal concentration.
Salutatorian is Casey D. Faulkingham, daughter of Mark and Leanne Faulkingham. She is president of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student and the Houlton High School Maine Principal’s Award recipient. She received the Principal’s Leadership Award, the Women in Engineering Award and we named Student of the Month for excellence in English. Faulingham was a Dirigo Girls’ State delegate and attended the National Federation of High Schools Leadership Conference in Indianapolis. She was also a delegate to the Maine Youth Leadership Program. She has served on the Student Council Executive Committee for four years and served as vice-president her senior year. She served at Junior Class President and Sophomore Class Vice-President.
Faulkingham has been a jazz band member for four years, a section leader for two years and a member of the percussion ensemble. She is a four-year member of the varsity softball team.
Faulkingham will attend the Honors College at the University of Maine at Orono and will major in biology with a focus on pre-medicine.
Parker D. Brown, son of David Brown and Julie Dunn, is a First Honor Essayist. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Principal’s Award honor student. He is a member of the Student Council Executive Committee and was a delegate to Dirigo Boys’ State. Brown is a member of the chorus, show choir, chamber choir and was an All-Aroostook member.
Active in sports, he has played varsity soccer for four years and has played varsity basketball and varsity baseball. He has served as captain of the basketball and soccer teams. He received the Shaw Memorial Soccer Trophy and was a member of the All-Academic, All-Conference basketball and soccer teams. He is also involved in skiing, hiking, kayaking, hockey and golf.
Brown has served as a basketball camp councilor, a peer tutor and a choral helper. As a member of Job for Maine Graduates, he has participated in community service projects such as the blood drive and breast cancer walk.
Brown will be attending the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in informational systems engineering.
Zachary D. Chase, son of Peter and Kathy Chase, is Second Honor Essayist. He is a member of the National Honor Society and a Principal’s Award honors student. He is the recipient of the Ervin Stone Algebra Award. He has also served as a math tutor to fellow students for three years.
Chase is a four-year member of the Houlton-Hodgdon Blackhawks hockey team and served as captain her senior year. He is a member of the Senior All-Star Team, the Academic All-stars and was named first team defenseman. He has also been a member of the varsity golf team. He also is involved in wake boarding and jeeping.
As a member of Jobs for Maine Graduates, he has participated in several volunteer projects, including the blood drive, breast cancer awareness walk and has served as a volunteer at the Miller Civic Center. Besides volunteering at the Millar Civic Center, he has worked there as an employee of the town of Houlton for two years and has worked on construction projects for Building, Etc., including renovations to Houlton High School,
Chase will attend the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in mechanical engineering.
