The East Grand Adventure Race for Teens will be held Saturday in Danforth. Registration is from 8:30-9 a.m. at East Grand School.
The race is divided into four areas — first, a bush whack on Peakaboo Mountain (approximately a mile off trail compass trek; second, mountain biking for approximately another seven miles on woods roads and trails; third, canoeing for about seven miles on the Baskahegan River, which is mostly flat water with a couple of easy quick water sections and finally, a climbing wall challenge back at the high school in the gym.
There will be a five-minute break between each element for students to take a short rest, eat a snack, and take a drink before heading out on the next leg of the race.
All interested high school students from Maine and beyond, grades 9-12, are eligible for the race, which consists of a two-person team of either girls, guys or co-ed.
There are $700 worth of prizes to the top three finishing pairs — first, $200 to Dick’s Sporting Goods and $200 to the Ski Rack in Bangor; second, two $100 gift certificates to Epic Sports in Bangor and third, two $50 gift certificates to Alpenglow Sports of Orono. More than $1,000 will be given away in door prizes after the race.
A traveling trophy will be presented to the winning team to keep at their school for the year.
Cost is $30 per team, which includes door prizes, lunch and an adventure race T-shirt. Advanced registration is required. For more information, download a registration form online at the school’s Web site at www.eastgrandschool.org or call Dave Conley at 448-2743 or e-mail dconley61@yahoo.com.
