Town Council notes
The Washburn Town Council held their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 14, at the Civic Center. The Council voted to approve the minutes of the December meeting, and reviewed the financial figures through Dec. 31. It was noted that all departmental budgets were on track for this time of year.
Also included in the agenda was a discussion regarding the FCC license renewal. An extension until June was given by the FCC which will take care of the delay in the arrival of Washburn’s cell tower. The tower is currently scheduled to arrive the last week in February.
The Council also reviewed a letter from the State Department of Audit regarding suggestions to all municipalities for internal control.
Also covered was preparation for the next two Council meetings to work on the annual budget. The next scheduled Town Council meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center and the Budget Committee meeting was set for Thursday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. at the Civic Center. All interested citizens are invited to attend both meetings.
The municipal elections for 2008 have been set for Monday, March 17, at the Civic Center, with the polls open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The annual Washburn Town Meeting will be held at the high school on Tuesday, March 18, starting at 7 p.m.

Trailrunner ‘tracks’
On Fridays, the kitchen will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a light lunch including burgers and hotdogs and Stew Night features a variety of great homemade soups and stews served starting at 4 p.m.
On Saturdays, the kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving breakfast and lunch. On Sundays, the clubhouse will be serving breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Trailrunners also hold weekly Bingo games clubhouse each Tuesday starting at 7 p.m.
Town events
TOPS will be meeting each Monday at the Washburn Trailrunners clubhouse, starting with weigh-in at 4:15 p.m. and the meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For further information, contact Birdena Cochran at 455-8353.
White’s Exxon has announced a change of hours for weekends during the winter season. They will be open on Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday they will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For any gas emergencies, phone 455-4379.
Brownie Girl Scout Troop 194 will meet at the Washburn Rec Center on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 2:45 p.m.
Friendly Co-op order week is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21, through Friday, Jan. 25. Delivery will be on Friday, Feb. 1, plan to pick up your orders that afternoon or evening. Orders may be e-mailed to bunny@ainop.com or phone Brenda at 455-8421 no later than Jan. 25.
The Women, Work and Community group will be meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the library from 9 to 11 a.m.
Wade notices
The town of Wade municipal books will close on Thursday, Jan 31, and all unpaid taxes from that date on will be listed in the Town Report. For further information, contact 764-2662.
Dog licenses
All dogs 6 months old or older must be registered in the municipality where the dog is kept by Jan. 1 of each year. Any licenses issued after Jan. 31 are subject to a late fee. When registering your dog, please bring the prior year’s license, a rabies vaccination certificate and a spaying or neutering certificate. Fees include $5 for dogs spayed or neutered and $11 for dogs that are not. Late Fees are $15 per dog in addition to the registration fee.
Washburn notices
The Town Office will be closed on Friday, Feb. 1, in order to close the town books for the year. The office will reopen on Monday, Feb. 4, at 7 a.m. All tax and sewer bills that are past due as of Thursday, Jan. 31, will be listed in the Town Report.
Perham notices
The Perham Grant Writing and Planning Boards will be holding their next joint meetings on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Perham Town Office.
The Perham Selectmen will hold their next scheduled meeting on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Town Office at 6:30 p.m.
Anyone wishing further information of Perham meetings or events is asked to contact Town Administrator Michelle McLaughlin at the Town Office on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The phone number is 455-5887. The office is closed Fridays and holidays.
Also available at the Perham Town Office are a few copies of Perham’s recently approved Comprehensive Plan. The vote concerning this plan will be held during the March Annual Meeting.
Scouts enjoy bowling party
Members of Washburn Boy Scout Troop 177 went bowling in Caribou and enjoyed pizza as part of the annual Christmas party, held on Thursday, Dec. 27.
Although no bowling records were broken during the evening, all the boys and leaders had fun and closed the year out in style.
Those attending were: Stephen Kinney, Keegan Page, Andrew White, Taylor Skinner, Kody Brissette, Adam Wilcox, Daniel Roy, Duylan Jones-Fuller, Jared Reed, Larry Harrison, Troy Wilcox, Bryan Schurman, Curtis Thompson, David Roy and Don Wilcox.
During January the boys will be working on winter camping skills and will practice building their polar dome at the campsite the weekend of Jan. 25-27, and may also be tubing at Big Rock.
Many thanks go out to those who purchased Christmas trees from Troop 177 this year, as it will help insure a strong program for the coming months.
Correction
Macie Barker’s name was inadvertently omitted as a member of Brownie Girl Scout Troop 194 who participated in carol singing during Christmas activities in the Town Park.
Rec Center schedule
On Wednesday, Jan. 23, there will be cross country skiing held from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. There will also be a basketball game at Limestone for the grades 5-6 girls’ team at 4 p.m.
On Thursday, Jan. 24, there will be a 5 p.m. basketball game for the grades 5-6 girls’ team at Mars Hill. On Friday, Jan. 25, there will be a basketball game for the grades 5-6 boys’ team at Fort Fairfield.
On Saturday, Jan. 26, grades 5-6 boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will play against Presque Isle. The girls’ team plays at 10 a.m. and the boys play at 11 a.m.
On Monday, Jan. 28, there will be cross country skiing from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. There will also be men’s basketball at the high school from 6:30 – 9 p.m.
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, there will be a trip to Melody Roller Rink for students in grades K-8. The cost is $3.50 and an extra $2 for roller-blades. The bus will be leaving the elementary school at 5 p.m. and returning at 8 p.m.

Special Legion meeting
Please note that this is a change in date for the upcoming February meeting of Dow Post 48 of the American Legion. They will be meeting at the Washburn Civic Center on Tuesday, Feb. 12, and their meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a Valentine’s Day potluck supper to follow. Guests and spouses are invited to attend. Also, the Legion has now provided some temporary lighting for the flag pole in the Town Park on Main Street. This coming spring, the Legion has plans on making the lighting permanent.
