The eighth annual June Jamboree, the two-person tournament featuring 9 holes of Best Ball and 9 holes of scramble, was played last Saturday and lots of birdies were scored by the 44 competing teams.
The team of Mike Fleming and Peter Stanley converted the most and walked away as the 2008 champs with a score of 56. Close behind were runner-ups Bill Dwyer and Wayne Floyd. Ian and Porter Gervais placed third; Dennis Wright and Josh McGuire were fourth and Bob Gray and Parker Sanderson tied for fifth, with Ben Goodwin and Greg Palmer Jr. Cindy Floyd and LouAnn Dwyer were the top ladies team finishers.
The next tournament scheduled is the annual Houlton High School Alumni Scramble. This 9-hole event will be played Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on July 5.  Get your four-person teams ready and sign up now, or if you haven’t a team, sign up and we will place you on a team. You do not have to be a Houlton alumnus to play. Call the clubhouse now at 532-2662 for more info. Later that afternoon, there will be an alumni social from 4-8 p.m.
Junior Golf begins Tuesday, July 1. Players will meet at the practice range at 8:15 a.m.  All 9-15 year olds are invited to attend this six-week clinic.  Cost of the clinic is $40.
Men’s and Ladies’ Twilight League action is heating up. In the Men’s League, the Marino/Peabody team and the Turner/Mailman teams lead the Mickelson Division. These two teams square off against each other this week. In the Woods Division, the Dunn/Fitzpatrick team lead the Moody/Bergan team by a point, while in the Els Division, defending champs Goodwin/Peabody are a point better than the McPartland/Gervais team. In the Ladies’ League the Bragan/Holmes team is atop the standings, followed closely by the Gray/McPartland team.
Low score of the year was posted last week by Jerry York.  Jerry made six birdies and no bogies for a 66 score. Congratulations Jerry.
With the summer now upon us, sunny weather and a  golf course in great condition, there has been lots of play with a full course already common. Feel free to call the clubhouse or check our Web site for all the daily special play and events.
