Island Falls captures Katahdin Valley League crown defeating Sherman

    The Katahdin Valley Little League held its girls’ softball double elimination tournament last weekend in Patten.
    In the first game last Friday, Oakfield handed Patten their first loss of the tournament by a score of 19-5.
    Winning pitcher was Dakota Dickinson, who was backed offensively by Jessica Nye with four hits, followed by Jessica Tucker with three hits.  
    For Patten, Sophie Vetter had a home run, while Alyssa Falanka and Georgia Landry each had a hit.
    In the second game of the night, Island Falls handed Sherman their first loss, 10-0.  
    Sable Altvater and Lauren Rockwell combined to pitch a shutout. Altvater and Mataya Hartin each had three hits, while Lauren Rockwell, Shanna Porter and Colby Walker each chipped in with two hits.    
     On Sunday, Sherman eliminated Patten, 9-8.
    Winning pitcher was Courtney Stevens, and she was backed by Morgan Livezey and Lizzie Knowles each with two hits.
    For Patten, Shiloh Shaw and Hannah Buhler each had a pair of hits.
    In the next game, Island Falls handed Oakfield their first loss of the tournament, 11-9.
    Altvater and Rockwell shared in the pitching duties. Island Falls was led by Chloe Raymond, Porter, Altvater and Katie Prescott each with three hits. Also in this game Lacey Lindsay got her first hit of the season.  
    For Oakfield, Tucker hit a home run, while  Taylor Desmond and Cassidy Lyons each had a pair of hits.
    Sherman eliminated Oakfield from the tourney by a score of 14-13 behind winning pitcher Livezey. She helped her own cause with a three-run home run. Devyn Lagasse had three hits and L. Knowles had two.  
    For Oakfield, Tucker had two hits, while Renee Faulkner and Courtney Welton each chipped in with a hit.
    In the final game of the tournament, Island Falls was crowned the Katahdin Valley League Champions by handing Sherman a 9-5 loss.  
    Altvater and Rockwell shared in the pitching duties again to pick up the win. Island Falls was led by Altvater with a home run. Katie Prescott and Raymond each had three hits, while Hartin chipped in with two hits.  
    For Sherman, Emily Knowles, Kami Guiggey and L. Knowles each had a hit.
