HOULTON — The Houlton Fair Committee announced last week that plans to hold a September concert have been cancelled.
Earlier this year the fair began promoting the Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood show. Following the success of this year’s comedic talents of Jeff Dunham, the association felt confident to introduce more entertainment for concert-goers.
“I am very disappointed to announce that the Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood show will not be happening,” said Fair President Paul Cleary. “The cancellation is due to a conflict in schedule.”
Cleary said anyone who has already purchased tickets for the show can receive a refund by returning them to the outlet where they were bought. He said the committee had tried to sign the two comedians, who are best known for their appearances on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, but did not get their bids in fast enough.
“It was really our fault,” said Cleary. “We didn’t get the contract and the deposit into them quick enough and there were two people fighting for the same date. We are really disappointed that we couldn’t do it.”
Cleary said the Fair Association intends to stay on track with their April show next year, however, he said he wasn’t sure if they would be able to get the two for that date either.
“Even without the Mochrie/Sherwood concert, the fair must go on,” said Cleary.
Money raised through concert events are used to fund the land acquisition for the 100-plus acres on Smyrna Street recently purchased by the Fair Association.
