HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Water Company (HWC), owned by the citizens of Houlton, has been providing valuable utility services to the area since 1880.
HWC supplies electricity to the town of Houlton, parts of New Limerick, Hodgdon, Ludlow and Linneus. They also provide water to Houlton and parts of Hodgdon along with delivering wastewater services to Houlton.
Employing 22  people full-time, HWC aims for reliable, cost-effective service, said General Manager John Clark.
“We’re in the business of supplying vital services economically and reliably while caring about our customers,” said Clark, who added that the Houlton utility has some of the lowest electric rates in New England.
During their long-standing history, the utility has maintained close ties to the customers they serve.
“Our logo has a tag line that says, ‘Serving our Neighbors,’” Clark said. “Because our customers are our friends and neighbors, customer service is number one with us.
The company prides itself on their performance guarantees.
“When we give our word to provide service at a certain date and time, we will perform as promised,” added Clark. “If we do happen to fail, we will credit your account.”
