Disaster group to meet in Houlton
  HOULTON — Empowering Life Ministries will host a meeting of Volunteer Organizations Active In Disaster (VOAD), Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The VOAD presentation will include an update on county floods, winter heating and food projects. The meeting will be held at Empowering Life, 144 Military Street in Houlton.

TREASURES FOR SALE — Literally thousands of items will be available at the Houlton Council of Catholic Women’s (HCCW) Annual Rummage Sale, October 9 – 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers Pricilla Farrar, right, and Janet Barker, both HCCW members, seem happy with the large number of clothing items for men, women and children as well as household and craft items. Barker, chairperson of the sale, says there will be plenty of “treasures for sale at a great price.”

DELISH DISH — Mary Grant dished up spaghetti for Gregory Fitzpatrick at St. Mary of the Visitation’s benefit and silent auction for Bill Roach who is recovering from heart surgery and a stroke. Between 200 and 300 people turned out to show their support Sept. 25.

BOUNTIFUL HARVEST — Rita Briggs looks forward to her roast turkey dinner Sept. 26 at the Houlton United Methodist Church benefit.  Between 150 and 175 people ate heartily at the harvest supper served with all the “fixins,” to support the church’s youth ministries.
