Houlton Higher Education Center sponsors pumpkin carving contest

 Sharpen your carving skills and create a prize winning Jack-O-Lantern. Bring your already carved jack-o-lantern to the Houlton Higher Education Center at 18 Military Street in Houlton by 4 p.m., Oct.27.
    Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: children to grade six, grades seven thru 12, adults and local artists.
    Your pumpkin will be placed on display in the lobby for voting. Voting will be by monetary donation. Each pumpkin will have its own donation jar. Encourage your family and friends to come in and vote for your pumpkin. The pumpkin with the most money will win. Contestants do not need to be present for the awards.
    Please pick your pumpkins up by 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.29.
    Proceeds to be donated to Senior Emergency Fuel Assistance Program and Houlton Community Arts Center in memory of Lewis Wirta.
