Island Falls Historical Society to open season May 23

    The Emerson Store Consignment Craft & Gift store at the Island Falls Historical Society will open for its eighth season Saturday May 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a baked beans and biscuits sale and many items marked down. This is in conjunction with the area wide yard sale event being held May 22-25 in the area.
    The shop features local handmade crafts of many kinds, sold on consignment. The proceeds from the store support the work of the historical society in maintaining its properties and preserving area history.
    The Tingley House and the Bev Rand Potato House at the M. E. Coburn Museum site area on Nina Sawyer Lane and the Jail House Museum on Burleigh Street make up the historical exhibit areas. Each is unique in its displays of local area history and artifacts.
    Hours for the museums will be, Emerson Store, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning May 27; Jail House Museum, Tuesdays 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. beginning June 2.
    Private tours may be made by inquiring at Katahdin Public Library, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays or by calling 463-2264/2372.
    Officers for the historical society are Reneva Smith, president; Annette Stevens, vice-president; Rebecca Drew, secretary and Fred Anderson, treasurer.
