Chelsi Murray, a sophomore at Houlton High School was the first place winner in the chemistry division at the Maine State Science and Technology Fair on May 16 at the University of Maine. Her experiment was identifying blood using forensic science.
More than 140 high school students received awards at the event that was sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association in partnership with National Semiconductor and Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland and the University of Maine.

FIRST PLACE — Chelsi Murray, a sophomore at Houlton High School received a plaque and a medal for placing first in the chemistry competition at the State of Maine Science Fair held at the University of Maine.
The MPA awarded plaques to the schools whose students took first place in the Talks and Demonstrations and Exhibits categories. First through third place winners took home gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. The awards were funded by National Semiconductor and Fairchild Semiconductor.
Murray placed third in the state in 2008.
She is the daughter of Leisha Murray of Houlton.
