Dead River Company’s propane delivery driver, Arthur Briggs of Oakfield has hit the big time.
Last fall Dead River Company created an internal brochure for their employees, which featured select staff from across the company who well represented the organization’s commitment to quality customer service. Among the employees featured in the brochure was Briggs.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Dead River Company was founded in 1909 by Charles Hutchins and remains a family owned business focused on providing an exceptional level of customer support and committed to making their customers’ lives more comfortable through the delivery of home heating oil, propane and related equipment and services.

A LOCAL STAR — Arthur Briggs, right, propane deliveryman for the Dead River Company in Houlton was selected to take part in a television commercial that will be seen in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont as he represents the 100-year-old company and its dedicated service to the customer. Briggs was honored with flowers, balloons and a specially decorated cake. Hosting the event was Manager Gary Briggs, left, and other Dead River employees.
Briggs is just that kind of employee who is dedicated to his customers and builds relationships with them through trust and attention to details.
Briggs has worked for Dead River Company for 26 years. His delivery area stretches from southern Aroostook up to Bridgewater, down to Forest City and to Wytopitlock. He has always enjoyed his job and his customers.
From that initial employee brochure came the opportunity for him to participate in advertising; featuring a Dead River Company oil delivery driver.
Just recently Briggs made the trip to Portland and learned just what goes into making a commercial. He practiced his lines, spent several hours on location and had a professional make-up artist ready him for the shoot.
Briggs said, “The make-up artist had her work cut out for her, trying to keep the perspiration from showing on my face on such a hot day.”
Briggs said he was quite nervous on the way down to Portland, but it wasn’t as bad as he anticipated. One of the highlights of his trip was driving a newer truck than he has locally.
If Briggs is your propane deliveryman, you just may see him on your TV screen in the near future.
The many faces of Dead River Company include those from your hometown – your friends and neighbors working to keep you warm. This is a commitment from the company that’s been around for a century.
Briggs was guest of honor at a special barbecue at lunchtime by Gary Briggs, manager of the Houlton office and his fellow employees on Aug. 5. He also received flowers and balloons from Tom and Debbie Nisbett of Chadwick’s Florist.
