Image    Officials at Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center in Bangor recently welcomed Amber Merrill, FNP, OT to its clinical staff. Merrill is one of two nurse practitioners at the Center and adds a depth of clinical experience that complements the woman-centered philosophy of care.
During her master of science studies at the University of Southern Maine’s Family Nurse Practitioner program, Merrill completed a clinical rotation at Mabel Wadsworth Center. That experience cemented her desire to work in women’s health and made for an easy transition to a full-time position. In addition to her work there, Merrill’s clinical rotations included family practice, pediatrics, surgery and internal medicine.
Prior to studying nursing, Merrill worked for 10 years as an occupational therapist, treating adults in hospital and home settings. She also served as a member of the adjunct faculty at the College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Southern Maine, teaching undergraduate nursing courses in fulfillment of her passion for teaching and learning. Merrill maintains memberships in both Maine-based and national associations for nursing and occupational therapy.
She looks forward to her new role at Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center, as it allows her to utilize nursing skills along with the client-centered approach that is integral to occupational therapy.
Merrill was born in Houlton and is a 1988 graduate of Hodgdon High School. She is the daughter of James Porter of Weston and Linda Sinclair of Hermon.
Merrill resides in Bangor with her husband Matt.
