An open invitation to Caribou’s birthday party

To the editor:
Well, we hope you’re in the mood to have fun, because the time has come for Caribou’s Culmination Week celebration. Our 150th festivities have been great so far, but now we’re ready to wrap things up (kind of!) with a bang!
Our city-wide open houses take place this Friday; look for the signs at all host locations, and have fun checking out as many of of our noteworthy public and private places as you can!
On Friday, events start at Teague Park in the late afternoon, with the arrival of Maine’s Civil War re-enactment camp. There will be food, music and fun in the park all evening; it will be a great way to start the weekend off!
On Saturday, come to the park early for more festivities and great music, as well as the Civil War re-enactors! And get ready for the parade of the century! It starts at 1 p.m., and we urge you to bring a chair and enjoy this special event. There will be volunteers dispersed throughout the parade route wearing special T-shirts, if you have questions or need any help. (Just a note to businesses along the parade route: since the area will be blocked off until approximately 3 p.m. at the earliest, your employees may enjoy the opportunity to join those watching the parade).
After the parade, events move to the high school beginning at 4 p.m. with the famous University of Maine Pride of Maine band playing for your entertainment. Other bands and acts will follow, and there will be guest speakers and a special presentation. Enjoy our community’s barbecue while the acts entertain (tickets available at the barbecue)! Finally, the fireworks to end all fireworks will start at approximately 8 p.m. The show will be set to music, and you will not want to miss it!
In case of severe weather, a decision to postpone events will be made as early Saturday as possible. For more information on where to park and how to catch the shuttle busses, please call the Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry at 493-4233, or for any other questions you may have.
We hope you can come join us for all the events we have planned this week! Our city has much to celebrate, and we’re going to “do it up right”!
