PRESQUE ISLE – Kenneth B. Roope, 85, died Tuesday night March 18, 2008, at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. He was born in West Chapman on Nov. 24, 1922, the son of Boyd and Mabel (Eaton) Roope.
Kenneth served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He worked as a farmer, was the road foreman and selectman for the Town of Chapman in which he plowed the roads for 16 years. He moved to Presque Isle in 1969 and worked for the City of Presque Isle Highway Dept. Kenneth was a hard worker and a good father. He was a member of the Squa Pan Outing Club, the Knights of Pythias in Mapleton, and the DAV. He was the resident of the month for February at the Maine Veterans Home.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene (McPherson) Roope of Presque Isle; a son, Ron and his wife Julie Roope of Mapleton; two daughters, Lynn Maillett and her husband Dan of West Chapman, Rebecca Dean and her special friend Kenneth McCausland of Presque Isle; a brother, James Roope and his wife Annis of Castle Hill; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Maynard and Joye Buck of Chapman; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Joyce Thomas of Presque Isle; and special nurses “angels” at the Maine Veterans Home. He was predeceased by an infant son Danny.
Relatives and friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the West Chapman Advent Christian Church. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. Spring interment will be in Southside Cemetery, Mapleton.
