Aroostook County Committee awards grants

Grant requests for the next cycle must be postmarked by May 15, 2008
    ELLSWORTH – The Aroostook County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation recently awarded $22,300 in grants to 10 Aroostook County non-profits.

    Among the funded programs were the Maine Swedish Colony’s traditional Swedish Dance revival, which was held at the Midsommar Festival and the Northern Maine Fair & Music Festival.
    Other grant awards went to:
    • 10th Mountain Ski Club, Fort Kent, to assist with the free community ski programs.
    • Association Culturelle et Historique du Mont-Carmel, Lille, to help with preservation of the Musee du Mont-Carmel.
    • Catholic Charities, to help with the Home Supplies and Food Bank.
    • Homeless Service of Aroostook, Presque Isle, to provide transport for families using the shelter.
    • Northern Maine General, Eagle Lake, to support the pavilion project as part of the Eagle Lake Centennial year.
    • Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Corp., Caribou, to help with the columbarium project.
    • Patten Lumbermen’s Museum, Patten, to support the covered shelter project.
    • Salmon Brook Historical Society, Washburn, for the museum expansion project.
    • St. John Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, Fort Kent, for outreach programs.
    The Aroostook County Fund supports projects that strengthen communities in the county. A committee of local residents and business leaders reviews grants and makes recommendations twice a year. Grant requests for the next cycle must be postmarked by May 15, 2008. Applicants will be notified in late July. Application, guidelines and a list of recent grants can be found at www.mainecf.org.
    Grants are made from the Aroostook County Fund, a permanent fund restricted to non-profits serving Aroostook County.
