Summer rec program registrations

The Houlton Recreation Department will be accepting summer program registrations at the Gentle Memorial Building on the following dates: Houlton residents only on Tuesday, May 4 from 5:30-7 p.m., with open registrations on Wednesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registrations will be accepted until June 1, however, several programs are limited so you may want to register early during registration week.
Programs being offered this summer are:“Just For Kids” Playground program, Youth Swim Lessons, Youth Tennis Lessons, Junior Girls Softball, T-Ball, First Pitch, Youth Basketball Camp, Hershey Track and Field, Dutch Soccer Academy, Sneakin’ In Science, Mini Soccer Clinic, Pitch-Hit-Run and Junior Olympics. Pitch Hit Run Competition: New this year is the skills competition of Pitch-Hit-Run  for youth between the ages of 7-14 years of age. This will be held on Sunday, May 2 at Community Park Fields.
Free to all youngsters that are participating, the pitching skills will test a youngster’s throwing skills, hitting skills will be measured for accuracy and distance and the running skills will be a timed event where the child will run from second base to home.
Age divisions and competition times are as follows: Boys baseball: 1 p.m. for 7-8 year-olds and 9-10 year-olds; 2 p.m. for 11-12 and 13-14 year-olds. Girls softball will be at 3 p.m. for all age groups.
Winners will qualify on to the sectional competition set for Bangor on May 22. Registration is required, please contact the Houlton Rec at 532-1310 by April 30. Parents will need to bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate on the day of the competition.
Junior Olympic Skills Competition: This event will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at the Houlton Rec Center. The four events include: tennis, basketball, track and soccer. Youth between the ages of 8-13 are invited to attend. Age deadline is August 31. Age divisions and times are as follows: 12 p.m., ages 8-9;  1 p.m. ages 10-11; and 2 p.m., 12-13.
This event is free to all participants. Participants may choose one, two, three or four events. Registration is required. For more information, contact the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310.
