The high school regular baseball and softball season has opened. The following are results of games played through Monday, April 26.
The Southern Aroostook Warriors traveled to Hodgdon Saturday and brought home a season-opening 7-0 win, as Dakota Sleeper hurled a complete game shut out, with 15 strikeouts. He gave up three walks and the Warriors committed one error.
At the plate, Sleeper aided his own cause with a pair of singles and an RBI, while Pat Goodall roped two doubles and drove in two runs. Chris Casey also singled twice and plated a run for the Warriors.
Hodgdon’s Josh Hudson, who came in for Laurence Burpee in the sixth, broke up Sleeper’s no-hitter with a two-out base hit in the bottom of the seventh.
The Warriors took a 4-0 lead into the fifth and added three runs in the top of the seventh.
Three Hodgdon pitchers combined to allow eight hits and seven runs. Mike Brombosz threw two innings, giving up one earned run, while Nick Lunn worked three innings, allowing one earned run and Chris Wallace threw two innings, with three earned runs.
“Our pitchers did well,” said Hodgdon coach Rob Smith. “They gave up five less walks this game and were more consistent on throwing strikes.”
Hodgdon faced GHCA yesterday in Hodgdon.

Penobscot Valley 9, Houlton 0 — The Houlton Shiretowners traveled to Howland on Monday to open their season and they were shut out by PVHS’ Dylan Worster, who threw a two-hitter, walking three and striking out seven, as the Howlers improved to 2-0.
The Howlers took a 5-0 lead second, adding two more runs in the third and sixth innings.
The Shires were led by Hunter Hanning, who singled in the first and third innings.
Katahdin 14, Fort Fairfield 5 — At Stacyville Monday, the Cougars picked up an opening-season win behind the bats of Brady McNally, who doubled, singled twice and drove in four runs and Kolby Gallagher, who hit a two-run home run. Cougars winning pitcher Brandon Robinson singled twice to help his own cause.
The Cougars led 3-1 to open the game, but trailed 5-4 after three before coming back strong in the fourth with four runs for an 8-5 advantage. The Katahdin hitters added three runs over the fifth and sixth innings to finish strong.
The Cougars outhit the Tigers, 10-4, and made three less errors than Fort Fairfield with seven.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Cougars earned a season-opening win, as well.
Katahdin 13, Fort Fairfield 8 — On Monday, the game was tied 1-all through the third and four innings before the Tigers added three runs in the top of the fifth. However, the Lady Cougars stormed back in the bottom of the frame for seven runs to take an 8-4 lead. In the sixth, the Tigers added a run, which was countered with five Katahdin runs in the bottom of the frame. Katahdin held off Fort Fairfield, which scored three runs in the seventh.
At Stacyville, Dani-Beth Cyr doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs, while Mariah Williams added two singles and two RBIs.
Limestone 5, So. Aroostook 4 — In Limestone Monday, the Lady Warriors fell behind the Eagles, 2-0 before using a three-run fifth to take a 3-2 lead before Limestone knotted the game in the bottom of the frame.
With each team scoring a run in the sixth, the game was still tied 4-all. The Lady Warriors were unable to capitalize in the top of the seventh, but Limestone’s Audra Kirk came through to lift the Eagles to the win.
With no outs in the bottom of the seventh, Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing home the game-winner, which was set up by two walks and a passed ball. Eagle pitcher Jasmine Cote went the distance for the win, allowing four hits, five walks and striking out two.
For SACS, Evangeline Goodall pitched a complete game and had her team’s only RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Limestone out hit SACS, 11-4 in the game.
Penobscot Valley 7, Houlton 5 — At Howland on Monday, the Lady Shires fell behind the Howlers 5-0 after three innings. The Lady Shires got back two runs in the top of the fourth and tied the game in the top of the fifth. But, the Howlers answered in the bottom of the fifth when Eliza Pelletier hit a run-scoring double to give her team the lead and eventual win, as PVHS added another in the sixth.
Kayla Dube of PVHS had 12 strikeouts and hit a three-run double in the third. The Howlers are 2-1 on the year.
For Houlton, 0-1,Chelsi Murray doubled a run in, while Madison Lezotte doubled and singled twice.
