Houlton Rotary Club
Rotary is three things — fellowship, information, and most importantly, GIVING. Our motto is, “Service Above Self”. Our Club recognizes the importance of giving of time and money back to the community. Our club involves itself in many projects that directly impact the lives of those in the area. We also, every year, recognize two individuals from the area with a Paul Harris Award. This Award, named after Rotary International’s founder, is given to individuals who have, over their lifetimes, exemplified, “Service Above Self”.

HOULTON HIGH SCHOOL staff and students were honored recently by the Houlton Rotary Club for “Service Above Self.” Accepting the award from Rotary Vice President Scott White, left, during a May 10 recognition dinner were HHS Student Council members — senior Ariel Foss and juniors Tyler Delano and Marina DiMarco – and Principal Marty Bouchard.
It is in the same theme that the “Service Above Self” Award is given. We look for a school who in the past year has exemplified our motto, “Service Above Self”, through donating of time to improve the lives of those who live around them. Giving of one’s self.
This Award is engraved with their name, as well as the names of past winners. We as Rotarians appreciate all the hard work that was done by our local area schools. This year some of those projects included, food pantry drives, breast cancer awareness fund-raisers, and helping out the Salvation Army. Some of projects taken on by students of the winning school, included donating money or time to, Haitian relief, Houlton Little League, Houlton Humane Society, and the Make a Wish Foundation.
It is through these and other projects that the students exemplify “Service Above Self”. Please join me in congratulating this year’s winner, Houlton High School on this outstanding achievement.
