The No. 7 Houlton High School boys’ tennis team (7-6) ended a successful season in the Class C quarterfinals against No. 2 Madawaska (10-3).
The Shires lost the match 3-2.
In singles play, Houlton’s Zach Harvey went down to Nathan Beaulieu, 6-1, 6-2, while teammate Lucas Anderson took Chris Lizotte to the wire, 7-6, 7-1 (tiebreak), 6-1 and Tyler Delano of the Shires picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Matt Deschenes.
In doubles, Houlton’s Zach Ritchie/Jordan Russell overtook Aaron Thibeault/Greg Saucier, 6-4, 6-4, while teammates Cody Woods/Craig Thomas were defeated 7-5, 6-1 by the team of Jacques Daigle/Jamie Cyr.
